Originating from Edinburgh and now based in Melbourne, where he has established himself in the thriving music community, Faith honed his keen ear for rhythm and sound as a DJ and turntablist spinning hip hop, jungle, reggae and D&B across the UK and Australia. Early forays into making his own music heavily reflected his affinity with dub sensibilities and techniques, before the burgeoning hip hop future beats scene entranced him and became an equally strong force. In 2011 - by now a pioneer in exploring and unearthing these experimental beats as a DJ, via his radio show on Sydney's 2SER.fm and his renowned Headroom club night - he took the style in his own cosmic direction. His lauded "Blue Sky on Mars" EP was snapped up by Civil Music (Om Unit, Debruit, Drums of Death), attracting remixes from the likes of Ital Tek.

Drawing on the widest range of influences yet, the sound you now hear from Jonny Faith is a finely crafted and individual style, rooted in hip hop but overflowing with intricate percussion and lush, organic tones. Spritely energy is anchored by serious beats and layered sonic ideas, and his galactic inspirations overlap with a sense of wonderment at the intensely vivid light and nature surrounding him in Australia. A truly instinctive producer and composer, Faith's one conscious intention with 'Sundial' was to explore the combination of rich, organic and peaceful sounds with hip hop beats.

The invigorating appeal takes hold in the opening seconds of the album; "Sun Theme" brings a sense of basking in the rays of the rising sun, kicking off a journey of warmth and light throughout the album. Luminescent chimes on "This Love" combine with a dust and crackle that nod to Faith's penchant for vinyl crate digging. A host of different hand percussion, from Faith's ever-growing collection, are woven into the worldly groove of "Slumber"alongside a rich tapestry of chopped up vocals, for an intense sonic journey through an enchanted forest. The sweetness of the Rhodes piano chords gave "Le Sucre" its name; the lull that this track provides is not to be confused with simplicity as a web of future garage sounds subtly emerges into a new style guided by Faith's instinctive touch.

The propulsive "Zheng" brings another shift in mood; on this track, at its core a hip hop cut, Faith samples the Guzheng, a Chinese string instrument which gives a mystical, peaceful and psychedelic flavour. The spirit of play and experimentation infiltrates "Thin Air", with sounds fed through an old guitar amp and recorded back in to give a warmer, grittier feel. Shimmering slip of a track "Lost Earth" synthesises the cosmic sci-fi of Faith's previous projects with something more anchored, organic and earthy. The album's title track sums up the enchanting experience of the record, and its unclassifiable genre; "Neon" finds Faith exploring 80bpm fast/slow footwork territory, with pitch-shifted vocals that shine colourful and bright like neon lights, while "Garuas" is drenched in sampled raindrops. Chopped up kalimba sounds on "Firefly" are replayed in overlapping patterns, evoking images of fireflies darting around each other, in amongst the spoken samples, creating a heady glow before the sun sets on the album with a beautiful reprise of the opening theme.

Having taken time to hone and enrich his skills, both in the studio and via his work as a music production teacher - as well as being part of the global 'CDR' producers' movement with peers including Mark Pritchard - Jonny Faith's sound has grown into an emotive and accomplished affair that is pricking up ears the world over. With previous gigs including support for Tokimonsta and Nosaj Thing, Faith will also be utilising his DJ and turntablist chops in a new live set incorporating his own tracks, live remixes and album material.
